이 연구는 해외 태권도 시범에서 나타나는 국가주의 이데올로기를 이해하고, 태권도시범단의 단원이 해외 태권도 시범을 통하여 국가주의 이데올로기를 어떻게 경험하는지 탐색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 10년 이상의 태권도시범단 경력을 가진 4명을 연구참여자로 선정하였으며, 해외 태권도 시범을 다수 경험한 사람으로 제한하였다. 자료수집 방법은 주로 심층면담을 이용하였으며, 수집한 자료는 질적자료의 분석방법에 따라 분석을 실시하였다. 이와 같이 수행된 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저 해외 태권도 시범을 통한 국가주의 이데올로기의 발현은 국가를 위한 개인의 희생, 고취된 애국적 감정, 내면화된 국위선양으로 나타났다. 다음으로 해외 태권도 시범을 통한 국가주의 이데올로기의 저항과 순응은 새로운 삶의 개척을 위하여 저항하고 있었으며, 구성원의 일원으로서 통합되기 위해 순응하고 있었다. 이를 구체적으로 살펴보면, 국가를 대표하는 태권도시범단의 일원으로서 개인의 희생을 경험하고 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 애국적 감정에 고취되어가며, 자신이 국위선양에 일조하고 있다고 내면화하면서 자신도 모르게 국가주의 이데올로기에 노출되고 있었다. 이러한 일련의 과정을 거치면서 태권도시범단의 단원은 국가주의 이데올로기에 저항하거나 순응하고 있었다. 이렇듯 해외 태권도 시범을 통한 국가주의 이데올로기는 민족의식에 입각한 애국적 정신을 배양하고, 국민으로서 일체감을 형성하였다. 또한 해외 태권도 시범을 통해 대내외적으로 민족의 자긍심을 높이는 전략이라고 할 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to understand the ideology of nationalism in Taekwondo demonstration and to explore how a Taekwondo demonstration team experienced nationalism through overseas demonstration of Taekwondo. For this purpose, four subjects who has more than 10 years of Taekwondo demonstraion career were selected as research participants. All participants have participated in overseas demonstrations for mutiple times Data collection methods were mainly conducted based on in-depth interviews, and the collected data were analyzed according to the qualitative data analysis method. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the emergence of nationalism through the demonstration of overseas Taekwondo was shown through the achievement via the sacrifice of individual, inspiration of patriotic feeling, and internalized enhancement of national prestige. Secondly, the resistance and conformity to nationalism through the overseas Taekwondo demonstration were shown, as there were conflicts among the members (resistance), followed by the efforts to be integrated as a team (conformity). As a concrete example, members were experiencing the sacrifice of individuals as a members of a Taekwondo demonstration team that represents the nation. On such basis, the participants were inspired by patriotic feelings and exposed themselves to the ideology of nationalism without recognizing, by the internalization that they were contributing to the national pride. Based on the findings, the Taekwondo demonstration team was resisting or conforming to nationalism. The ideology of nationalism through overseas Taekwondo demonstration cultivated the patriotic spirit based on the national consciousness, and formed a sense of unity as the people. This can also be viewed as a strategy to enhance the self-esteem of people both on the inside and outside of Korea through overseas Taekwondo demonstration.
