(8권 4호) 한국국제협력단의 해외 태권도 전파에 관한 연구_박성언, 허재성

본 연구는 한국국제협력단 협력요원들의 태권도 전파에 대한 참여배경, 태권도 전파를 통한 현지의 긍정적 변화와 한계점에 대하여 탐색하여 해외 태권도 전파에 대한 이해와 나아가 태권도 전파 교육에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하는데 본 연구의 필요성과 목적이 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 한국국제협력단의 협력요원으로서 임기를 마친 7명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였고 문헌분석과 심층면담 등을 통하여 자료를 수집하였으며 발견된 내용에 대한 요약은 아래와 같다. 첫째, 한국국제협력단원들은 군 복무 대체와 현지에서의 외국어 습득을 목적으로 해외 태권도 전파에 참여하게 된 것을 발견하였다. 둘째, 한국국제협력단원들의 해외 태권도 전파를 통한 현지의 변화로서 태권도 교육을 통하여 예의범절 형성과 대한민국의 국가이미지가 제고되는 것을 발견하였다. 셋째, 한국국제협력단원들은 언어적, 환경적, 문화적 한계를 중심으로 태권도 전파 과정에 한계점이 존재하고 있는 것이 발견되었다. 이러한 결과들을 살펴보았을 때, 한국국제협력단의 해외 태권도 전파는 ODA사업의 긍정적인 측면과 한국의 문화를 알리는 가치 있는 도구이자 과정으로 발견되었음을 확인할 수 있었다.

The purpose and need of this study is to provide understanding on the diffusion of Taekwondo in overseas and further provide base data required in the diffusion of Taekwondo education by exploring on positive changes and limitations of locality through the background of participating and diffusion of Taekwondo in the members of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). In order to accomplish such purpose, 7 cooperation members of Taekwondo that completed their terms as the members of the KOICA were selected to bring out the following summary regarding the contents discovered through document analysis and in-depth interview. First, the members of the KOICA are found to participate in the diffusion of Taekwondo in overseas for the purpose of acquiring foreign language in locality and alternative to the military service. Second, the members of the KOICA are found to enhance positive national image of Korea and formulating the sense of ethics through the Taekwondo education as a change of locality through the diffusion of Taekwondo in overseas. And third, the members of the KOICA are encountered with certain limitations in the diffusion of Taekwondo process mainly around the limitations in language, environment and culture. Overall, we confirmed the diffusion of Taekwondo in overseas for KOICA is a valuable means that promote Korean culture and the positive side of ODA business.
