(2권 1호) 무예와 스포츠, 그 행위의 본질에 기반 한 태권도 정신_이재돈

본 연구에서는 최홍희 총재가 제시한 바 있는 태권도 5대 정신이 논리적인 측면에서 다시 검토되어야 한다는 필요성에서 출발하였으며, 이를 위해 2개의 축, 즉 ① 무예적인 측면에서 태권도 정신과 ② 스포츠적인 측면에서 태권도 정신을 접근하는 방법을 연구의 틀로 설정하였다. 먼저 무예로서 태권도 정신을 추론한 결과, 태권도의 핵심은 인간의 본능, 물질적 가치는 신체, 구체적 실체는 태권도 기술, 외연은 태권도의 영역 즉 유형이라 판단되었다. 스포츠로서 태권도 정신을 추론한 결과, 태권도의 확장된 개념은 싸움에서의 공정함, 겨룸에서의 예의(염치), 태권도의 정신적 가치는 인내(극기, 백절불굴), 내포는 만족이라 판단되었다. 본 연구에서는 태권도의 정신을 “강함(强), 빠름(速), 정확(正), 공정(公正), 예의(禮儀), 인내(忍耐), 조화(調和), 만족(滿足)” 등 8가지로 도출하였다.

The purpose of this study was to review the 5 tenets (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit) of Taekwondo from a rational perspective. This study envisions a paradigm framed by 2 axes. One is the point of view about taekwondo spirit as it relates to martial arts. The other is the point of view about taekwondo spirit as it relates to sport, and includes the modern conceptualization of physical education, which is somatic education. First, there are four elements concerning the point of view about spirit as it relates to martial arts. The core concept of taekwondo is the instincts of a human being. The value of matter is the body of a human being. The concrete substance is  the taekwondo technique system. And, the denotation contains the four fields of taekwondo, which are Poomsae, Gyourugi, Sibeom, and Gyeokpa. Second, this study consolidates the points of view concerning spirit as it relates to martial arts. The first expanded concept of taekwondo is fairness as opposed to fighting in an ultimately life-threatening situation. The second expanded concept of taekwondo is courtesy(including integrity), the spiritual value of taekwondo is perseverance (including self-control and an indomitable spirit), and the connotation of taekwondo is satisfaction. To sum up, this study presents the elements that encapsulate the spirit of taekwondo. These are Strength, Speed, Accuracy, Fairness, Courtesy, Perseverance, Harmony, and Satisfaction.
