In this study, the author examined the meaning of uniform and competition uniform. This study aimed at providing basic data to clear doubts about whether uniform worn by trainees and players who learn Taekwondo through dress and basic clothes types and participate in the competition should be considered as uniform for cultivation(道) or "competition" uniform. Findings from this study are presented as follows. First, Taekwondo uniform for cultivation helps to express its unique martial characteristics and take calm and deliberate attitude in the course of training. Second, Taekwondo competition uniform involves elements such as comfort, playing improvement, and media exposure in terms of commerce. Third, the debate over Taekwondo competition uniform can be viewed as “Taekwondo is a part of martial art,” and “Taekwondo is a sport.” What should be noted is that the essence of Taekwondo should never be missed.
