(5권 2호) 최초의 태권도 교본에 관한 연구_김영선

최홍희가 1959년 10월 30일 출판한 태권도 교본은 ‘태권도’란 명칭이 사용된 최초의 서적으로 알려져 있다. 그런데 최홍희의 태권도 교본이 발행되기 바로 한 달전 육군사관학교에서 태권도 교본이란 이름으로 교육용 교재가 발행된 사실이 최근에서야 확인되었다. 육군사관학교 태권도 교본은 태권도 사료(史料)로서 처음으로 공개되는 만큼 그 발간 배경과 구성 내용에 대해 세밀히 검토할 필요가 있다. 아울러 같은 시기에 출간된 최홍희의 태권도 교본과 비교 분석함으로써 현대 태권도의 태동기에 제시된 기술 내용을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 본 연구자는 두 교본의 상세 내용을 분석함으로써 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 두 교본의 서적 형식 면에서는 육군사관학교 교본은 다소 미흡한 수준의 서적 체재에 그친 반면 최홍희의 교본은 수준 높은 단행본으로 편찬되었다. 육군사관학교 태권도 교본의 집필진은 현종명, 엄운규, 박해만 등 청도관 지도자들로 추정되었고 이들은 남태희와 더불어 최홍희의 태권도 교본 편찬에도 참여한 사실을 알 수 있었다. 두 교본의 내용 면에서 기본 구성과 형(型, 품새) 등 여러 부분들은 중국의 영향을 받은 당수(唐手)에서 유래한 공수도 기술 체계를 도입한 것으로 보인다. 특히 육군사관학교 교본은 전반적으로 공수도 의존도가 높아 보였지만 자유대련을 중시하는 단급 심사 방식에서는 공수도와 차별화된 경향을 보였다. 최홍희의 교본에서는 족기(足技: 차기) 항목과 화랑, 충무 등 창헌류 다섯 가지 형 등 여러 부분에서는 최홍희의 독창적인 기법과 지식들이 반영되었다.

known as the first book on Taekwondo. But it was conformed recently that another Taekwondo textbook by Korea Military Academy was published one month earlier than Choi's textbook. It is necessary to examine in detail in the background and the contents of the K.M.A's textbook as a historical material. In addition we can see the technical contents in the early days of modern Taekwondo by comparison of the two textbook. The result of analyzing the contents of the two books are as follows. In terms of the format of the books, both textbook were paperback but Choi's textbook was of a higher quality than K.M.A's. Also I was able to find that the Chungdokwan masters Hyun, Jong-myung, Um Unkyu and Park Haeman were presumed to be the authors of the K.M.A textbook and they also contributed to Choi's textbook with Nam, Tae-hee. In terms of the contents of the books, they took advantages of the technical system of Kongsudo(modern Karate), which was derived from Tangsoo(the chinese hand : the traditional Karate), especially on the part of the structure of basic forms and patterns. However, the K.M.A textbook placed more emphasis than Karate on free-sparring in belt level testing. The parts of kicking techniques and the Changhun-ryu patterns such as Hwarang, Chungmu etc, were recorded Choi's textbook based on the author's original method and knowledge.
